Summary:
On page 63 the last big portion of the book began called Memories from authors. For the first I thought and felt that it would be information gathered by Holzer and editors who helped him, however it was not. However they were people who wrote about him during his era. In a summary of a whole book I considered if not boring then indifferent. the problem is it overcrouded with memories. If you need great primary sources for research paper about Abraham Lincoln it is probably best text to use. However if you want to read a book that will drag you in and hold from the beggining to the end. Hard to write summary because it is same words over and over again in different interpritations. I would rather collect information about public life! It goes like a customers reviews on bestbuy.com! "Oh it is so great! I would reccomend it to the friend!" vs. " Lincoln was a great man! I would love is someone like him will rule the country again". Just like that. Next time would read an autobiography- so I can see feelings and emotion not just customer's survey. However there is a section of memories of African American. It is nice because they were enslaved and also wrote their oppinion about Lincoln.
Quote: "I seem to see him now, as - his tall, ungainly form wrapped in an old gray shawl, wearing usually a "Shockingly bad hat," and carrying a worse umbrella - he came up the steps into the building" (Holzer 218).
Reaction:
Liked that there was no intersection between how he looked like and how he behaved. President wearing worst hat and worse umbrella. Lovely! My personal oppinion is that man should always have clean shoes. since he had it he was taking care of how he loked! Hat and umbrella not the clothes for men especially for everyday and they should not be so good. Save money- live better, rule your country better.
